Air Travel in the Golden Age of Flying

Air travel today is a way to get from A to B. With a range of flights and some of the budget airlines offering cheap prices, air travel is something that can cost less than a train and is also more convenient than ever.

Modern aircraft are designed for carrying large numbers of passengers from place to place, and with great engineering making the safety of flying much better, air travel is something that is available to most people today.

However, this was not always the case – air travel in the early days of commercial passenger flights was very different indeed…

Cost – To travel by air in the 60s was much more expensive than it is today. It was seen as a luxury, and something that most people couldn’t afford. People would dress in their best clothes for the flight – something that is very different to today!

Luxury – Many people will talk about the ‘golden age’ of air travel being in the 60s and 70s. In those days it was a luxury experience that was considered a big part of the holiday. The finest foods were served, alcohol was free and without the entertainment screens available on modern aircraft, people were given postcards to write about their flight experience.

Safety – Something that has really improved air travel is the safety of it. In the 50s and 60s plane crashes were much more common than they are today. The airline industry had to learn from many of these earlier mistakes to help make flying safer, and companies like this aviation parts suppliers Aerfin work to the highest standards to make sure everything is safe.
